Lago Strobel (Jurassic Lake) is home to some of the largest rainbow trout on the planet
There is not a single fishery in the world for giant rainbow trout that falls under the same class as Jurassic Lake. Rainbows that inhabit this system routinely reach sizes over 20 pounds, the lake’s abundant scud population attributes to the rapid pace in which they reach these sizes. Jurassic Lake is diverse, and many of the most productive fishing areas are found within minutes of Jurassic Lake Lodge.
Jurassic Lake Lodge operates on both Jurassic itself and the Rio Barrancoso, the lakes dominant tributary. Many of the same stillwater fly fishing patterns and techniques that we use in British Columbia also apply at Jurassic Lake.
Fishing is done entirely from the shoreline, the Argentinian wind, the close proximity to shore in which these fish cruise, and Jurassic’s wide-open landscape make walk-and-wade fishing the most productive method. Anglers can expect numbers of fish averaging 8-12 pounds, with fish into the 20 pound range not being a rarity.
Fully renewed in 2016, Jurassic Lake Lodge enjoys a spectacular panoramic view of Strobel Lake and the Barrancoso River. It accommodates up to 10 guests in ten single or double rooms, each with a private entrance, private bath, hot shower and heaters. A separate building, attached by covered walkways accommodates the spacious living room, bar, and dining room areas.
Meals are prepared daily by the lodge’s dedicated chef, preparing typical Argentinian food as well as Argentinian Barbecue and the famous Patagonian Lamb. The lodge is also equipped with a full bar.
