Fly Fishing Icon Lefty Kreh Passes Away at 93
If there were such thing as a celebrity in the fly fishing industry, Bernard “Lefty” Kreh would be it. It is incredibly sad to imagine even typing the news that Lefty is passed on. Lefty was undoubtedly one of the great pioneers of the sport of fly fishing, and one of the best authors the industry has ever seen.
I owe a lot to Lefty and his books, I received a copy of “Fly Fishing in Saltwater” for my 16th birthday. I didn’t know what a Tarpon was at the time, I didn’t know what a bonefish was, I barely knew how to tie a blood knot but the passion that Lefty portrayed in his writing peaked my interest in the sport of saltwater fly fishing.
News of Lefty’s passing has already been featured in massive publications such as Forbes and the New York Times. Tonight I am going to sit down and tie a couple Lefty’s Deceivers in his honour and do my best to take a big Tarpon with one of them at the end of the month.
Rest in Peace Lefty Kreh ~ February 26, 1965 – March 14, 2018
