What are the best UV resins available in the fly fishing industry today? We are about to find out!

This is going to be a bit of a process, but we’re determined to do an in-depth shootout on the best UV resins available on the market. We have some great brands including Loon Outdoors and Solarez on board, and look forward to seeing this come to life. Resins will be tested on three different patterns, and graded in a multitude of categories.

Do you have a favourite UV resin that you think should be a part of this shootout? Let us know!

I coated my cronnies last year with Lepages superglue and then a coating of Solarez Bone and won’t be doing that this year. Checking my flies now and there are lots of cloudy flies. Back to Loctite only.

I believe LePage and Loctite are the same glue, usually with super glues like this I won’t add anything on top of it as it can definitely make flies cloudy if the glue hasn’t completely dried.

Have had some great luck using the Solarez thus far, will keep experimenting as we continue the shootout logistics!

Personally think loon is the worst and not getting better. Tried it all and it dries hard but multiple times in the water and it gets gummy and foggy looking. Huge disappointment for something you pay so much for. Itching to try the solarez products.

      Hey Jonny,

Thanks for the comment. I had a chance to try the Loon UV Flow as a simple thread lock on some Tarpon flies. From my experience, it was quite a good product but haven’t had much time to try it elsewhere. Hopefully that will be changing soon!

I have tried pretty much all of them with my favourite being Gulff. Dries hard and clear and very easy to apply. Also comes in multiple colours. I do like Bug Bondz as well. Very disappointed with Loon.

      Hey Merv,

Thank you for the comment! I had the pleasure of trying Gulff a couple weeks ago at a trade show and really enjoyed it. That was one of the only ones I was not able to get my hands on for the shootout. Will definitely keep it in mind for the future!
