First things first, I love taking photos but I don’t consider myself a great photographer. I am not pretending to be an expert on the matter, this article was written because I’m really excited I found something that allows me to take better tying photos.
I love looking at photos of flies that allow me to see small subtleties and details I may not be able to otherwise. I recently ordered Canon’s EF 100mm 2.8 USM Macro and haven’t been able to put it down.
It focuses fast, it’s sharp, it’s wide aperture allow you to keep your ISO down in low light conditions. The only thing I wish it came with was image stabilization (which is available on the new L series). I have been using an inexpensive lightbox I purchased on Amazon, and might look at picking up an LED filter as well.
I have this lens mounted on a Canon 6D body & don’t see myself searching for a new macro setup anytime soon. If you want any more fly tying sample photos using this lens feel free to send me an email!
