A 2nd instalment of this transformative program has been put in place, and enrolment is OPEN. Group 2 will begin Wednesday, April 1st.
Since the beginning, our mission has been to share knowledge and improve the skills of Stillwater fly fishing anglers in the shortest time possible. Stillwater fly fishing is an intricate, sometimes highly confusing game, and sometimes it can be downright frustrating.
The good news is that there are a few core principles that many expert Stillwater anglers share in common, and the speed in which they are able to discern a situation and make an effective, educated decision is what sets them apart.
There are two ways to become an expert at this: The first is to learn from someone who has spent a long time making, and learning from a long list of mistakes and failed attempts.
The second is to simply keep changing course until you gather the principles that will bring you routine, consistent success. Both are great, the only problem with the second one is that it will likely take a really, really, really long time.
Stillwater Success is a six-week program designed to bring you to expert status before the lakes lose their ice, and ensure you are primed for the upcoming season!
The purpose of this course is to condense the most important things I have learned in the past decade of dedicating myself to the art and science of effectively approaching Stillwaters. As mentioned in this podcast episode, with the decision to make spring of 2020 my last guiding season, I wanted to find a way to continue to add value to this corner of the fly fishing industry and assist people in learning the most important aspects at an accelerated rate.
When I first got the Stillwater bug at 15 years old, to say I had a lot to learn would be a gross understatement. I would load the belly boat I got for free into the back of my Honda CRX, drive to the lake, put on my $30 camouflage neoprene waders, and kick around the lake while trolling with a homemade sink tip and a sad excuse for a fly.
Things have changed a bit since then, but I still like to look back on those days when I would watch other people catching 10 fish for every 1 of mine and wonder what on earth they could have been doing differently.
What I have found in years of research and practice is that there are a few core principles, strategies and tactics that many effective stillwater anglers share.
In the lengthy planning of this program, I decided to take on a small group of students that are eager and committed to rapidly moving in the direction of becoming an expert in Stillwater fly fishing.
The outline of Stillwater Success looks like this:
This program consists of six weekly 90-minute video coaching calls, six weekly worksheets and journals, a 60-minute 1-on-1 Q&A call, and access to a private Facebook group which will continually be fed with information, techniques and patterns.
